Honeymoon Day 1: The Grand Canyon?

Kevin and I returned from our 9 day Honeymoon very late this past Sunday night (so it was technically Monday morning, I suppose...), and WOW did we have a great time on our honeymoon!!  There are no words to describe how amazing it was. We took so many pictures so there's no way that I can fit them enough in one post, so I figure I'll try to break it down by day (which is usually also by park)... which means I am going to be bombarding you with emails/pictures! And this week is INSANE for work so I don't have much time to post, so I'll try to get it all posted by this weekend.

Day 1: We woke up around 4am in the morning to head to the Philadelphia Airport, and caught our direct flight to Las Vegas! We arrived in Vegas, gathered our luggage, and took the shuttle to the rental car facility to rent our car. This whole process took over TWO hours!!  It was insane. After we finally had our rental car (a black Hyundai Santa Fe), we drove to Walmart in Vegas (which is total insanity... I don't recommend that anyone go here), and we bought all of our necessities for the 9 day honeymoon. This included groceries, an ice chest, firewood, etc.  We were finally ready to drive to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!!  Well... Mother Nature was apparently NOT ready for us to drive to North Rim, as we encountered a very massive storm. Between the towns of Hurricane (ironic...) and Colorado City, a huge tidal wave of mud hit our car. It was beyond scary, but Kevin did great and we made it through. We hit a few other areas of road that were completely washed out, and we both started realizing it was not a good idea for us to continue driving to the Grand Canyon, especially since it was starting to get dark and we were exhausted. So, we stopped for the night at a cute little place called Jacob Lake Inn. We had a GREAT dinner at their restaurant (everything was homemade - even the bread and hamburger buns!), and we slept SO well that night. We were passed out by 8:30pm (11:30pm East Coast time....). Here are a few pictures from our driving day:

Can you see how dark those clouds in the distance look?  Yeah... those were coming our way.

We were loving the scenery on the drive! But the storm was definitely creeping in...

And it's getting worse....

And it was here. This is when I was trying to get a picture of some of the insane lightning!  I couldn't capture any of it though...

Oh scary sky... This doesn't even capture how dark it looked!

Oh goodness...

Day 2 was a little more successful, so you'll get to actually see some pictures of the Grand Canyon in that post!
