Acadia National Park - Part 1

So, I started doing this post weeks ago about our early May trip to Maine and Acadia National Park, and then my computer decided to die!  Like, full-on die... As in catastrophic hardware failure.  So, that really sucked.  It was going to be a ridiculous amount to fix it, so Kevin and I spent a week or two researching new laptops and I now have a new laptop.  But, that's why I didn't post anything in May!  I'm sorry about that.

Anyways, back to something good!  Our trip to Maine and Acadia was AMAZING.  We drove up early in the morning on May 4th, and we drove back on May 11th.  I'm not sure of the best way to break up my posts for this trip because I took an INSANE amount of pictures, so I'll do my best to break it up in a way that makes sense!

We camped the nights of May 4th and May 5th, and then on May 6th we spent the night in Bar Harbor at a cuuuuuute little AirBnB right in town, and then we had two more nights of camping on May 7th and May 8th.  After that, we headed to Boothbay Harbor for the last two nights!  The weather was really perfect on our trip!  The daytime temperatures were in the low 60s, and the nighttime temperatures were COLD for camping (in the 30s), but that actually made it better because mosquitoes were not a problem at all!  Mosquitoes can be a HUGE problem in Maine, but we didn't have any problems thanks to those chilly nights.  We just had to bundle up for the evenings, and I literally slept inside two sleeping bags.

May 4th:  We didn't do much this day!  After our 8-ish hour drive, we were pretty exhausted!  We set up our campsite, got a nice campfire going, and just enjoyed relaxing for the evening.

May 5th:  We went exploring Acadia National Park!  We checked out the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and did a little hiking right around there, and that was super fun.  All of my photos from there are terrible though because there was this lady that just refused to get out of the way for everyone.  So, she's in EVERYONE'S pictures from that day.  We also went into Bar Harbor for a bit, and also drove around the Park Loop Road that goes all around the park!

Beautiful Maine coastline!

There's the lighthouse and the woman's head (right behind the rock towards the right side)

Here's Kevin very annoyed that the woman wouldn't leave.  Haha :)

This amaaazing coffee place in Bar Harbor!  Delicious.

Kevin on one of our hikes off of Park Loop Road!

My handsome husband!

May 6th:  We hiked Dorr Mountain!  This was our toughest hike of the trip, and it was awesome.  We were suuuper tired after this one!  It took us about 4 hours.

This was a scary ladder we had to climb up on part of the hike!  It was really hard to even reach the ladder because it started like waist-high, and then the ladder TOTALLY moved and shifted a lot when you got to the half-way point.  This picture is from the top after we'd finished it.

I'll end this post here so it isn't toooooo big, and I'll start working on another Acadia post!

April Recap

I can't believe I didn't post anything in April besides my zoo post that I just did tonight!  I'll be posting quite a bit in May, so don't worry!  Here's a quick April recap.

My birthday was at the beginning of the month!  For my birthday, all I wanted was a day of hanging out with McGee and Guinness!  So, we hiked around Valley Forge in the morning, and after that we went to Phoenixville to walk around the town and stop by a brewery with a nice outdoor area that loves dogs.

For my birthday "dinner" I wanted to go to brunch at this great place called White Dog Cafe that has dog stuff everywhere and they even had a dog cookie for my birthday ice cream (it was a delicious sugar cookie, don't worry!).

In the middle of this month we went to a fundraiser for our friend Timmy's choir.  Every year they do a drag show fundraiser that raises money for their outreach programs, and it is SO MUCH FUN.  Last year we had such a fun time, so we knew we'd have a great time this year too!  Timmy looked amaaaazing, and had quite an awesome performance!
The host for the evening!

This is our group there to support Timmy, and Timmy's there in front!  This was his pre-performance outfit.

And here's our group again with Timmy in his performance outfit!  He was Moira Rose from Schitt's Creek if you've seen that show.  It was hilaaaarious and amazing.

Timmy's performance!  All of the people in the choir were paired up with professional drag queens for their performances!  Timmy was dressed as Moira Rose (Schitt's Creek) and his partner was dressed up as Alexis (from Schitt's Creek).

Timmy looking stunning!!!

And April means that Spring has finally arrived in PA!  There have been some beautiful flowers, and lots of gardening.
This yellow bush (whatever it's called) is always the very first thing to bloom in our neighborhood!

Daffodils!!  Yayyy!!

This enormous azalea bush by our front door.  We should probably trim this thing...

Kevin using an aerator on our lawn!  We rented it from Home Depot and aerated our lawn, and then we put down some grass seed!!  Fingers crossed that our lawn looks good this year!

The other day when we were on a walk with Guinness we saw a fox!!  It quickly ran through this yard towards some foresty area, but I was able to grab a quick photo!  Soooo cute.

That's it for my April Recap!  The month of May should be lots of fun, and it's going to include a trip to Maine!!  We'll be camping in Acadia National Park for 4 nights, and also staying in Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor.  We're soooo excited, and I'll do some posts about that trip for sure.

A Trip to the Philadelphia Zoo

Hey guys!  Wow, April is almost over, and I haven't posted at all!!  Oh my goodness.  I thought I'd do a VERY quick post about a recent trip to the Philadelphia Zoo, because Kevin and I had such a great time!!  It was a very rainy day, so we knew it would be a great day to go to the zoo because no one would be there!  And, that was totally the case.  Kevin and I practically had the entire zoo to ourselves, and most of the animals didn't mind the rain at all!  So, here are a million pictures:

Look at the little baby!!

This little baby was adorable.

The orangutans were so amazing, but it turns out the orangutans don't love the rain!  They were mostly hiding from the rain, but they were soooo cute.
This one found a nice paper bag to hide in.

This one found a cubby to hide in and cover up with hay.

The one with the bag came over to hang in another cubby right near us, so she was like 12 inches from us!  Soooooo beautiful and amazing.

Eating a little snack.

Looking up at the rain falling down

This big guy was having fun just covering himself up with blankets and hay in his cubby.  So cute.

The gorillas didn't mind the rain at all!  And one of the male gorillas LOVES to walk around on two legs, and we were able to see a lot of him doing that while he was walking around picking up some snacks!  He was AMAZING to watch.

He has soooo many carrots!

Taking a little snooze in the rain

Beau the baby giraffe!  He's grown SO much since we were last there.  He's only like 6 months old.

The rhinoceros was wrestling with a big ol' tree branch!  I was thoroughly entertained just watching it try to move the branch with its horn.

The sloth bears were play-fighting!

That was our trip to the zoo!
